Computer App Programming (CAP) Competition in Hong Kong
Recently, a programming competition for young students called Computer App Programming (CAP) 2014 has been launched in Hong Kong. Using "CAP" as the symbol, CAP 2014 is co-organized by IEEE Hong Kong Section Computer Society Chapter and Hong Kong Association for Computer Education. Its aim is to enhance students' interest in computing and programming/coding. It is one of the largest collaborative efforts among university teachers and secondary school teachers to promote app programming in Hong Kong. MIT App Inventor has been chosen as the programming tool for CAP 2014. After learning MIT App Inventor through various training sessions, secondary school teachers will teach students to develop mobile apps using App Inventor. Each school will submit at least ten mobile apps for the project competition. A CAP Day will be held in May 2014 at the Department of Computing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The schools will showcase their mobile apps and share experience during the CAP Day. Project winners will be selected. Furthermore, each school will nominate a group of two students to participate in the final app programming competition. Basically, they need to solve programming questions using MIT App Inventor. "CAP" awards (e.g., Gold CAP, Silver CAP and Bronze CAP) will be given to the winning groups.
